What kind of encryption does PocketLock use?
With new version 2.1, you can select from the encryption methods
available on your machine, or the PocketLock ARC4 128-bit encryption
method. Most Pocket PCs have 40-bit RC2, 40-bit RC4, and 56-bit
DES. If you download the Microsoft
High Encryption Pak, you can get 128-bit RC2, 128-bit RC4,
112-bit 3DES, and 168-bit 3DES.
How do I get the PC version?
The PC version is available here.
It is a separate download, and costs $9.95
My Word and/or Excel files aren't readable when I encrypt them
and then transfer them between my Pocket PC and my PC. Why?
Certain file types, when encrypted, will not be readable on
both the Pocket PC and Desktop PC. If a file is converted when
copied between the two machines, then you will only be able
to read it on the machine it was originally created upon. For
example, Word and Excel files are converted before being copied
to the Pocket PC.
The following file types cannot be read after they are
encrypted and copied between a PC and a Pocket PC:
- Word.
- Excel.
- Notes.
- Any other file type that is converted when copied.
The following file types CAN be read after they are
encrypted and copied between a PC and a Pocket PC:
- Text
- WAV
- MP3
- HTML
- Any other file type that is not converted when copied.
The general process for transferring these files to and from
a PC is this:
- Unlock the file on your Pocket PC using the PocketLock
program (not by clicking it from the File Explorer.)
- Sync files.
- Edit the file on your PC.
- Sync files again.
- Lock the file on your Pocket PC.
What can I use as my password? Am I limited to just
numbers?
The PIN or password you enter can be a combination of numbers
or letters, up to 16 in all. You can use the pop-up keyboard
to enter letters or punctuation marks.
My French Language device gives an error when I try to encrypt.
Why?
Use PocketLock Version 2.1, and the ARC4 encryption method,
and you won't have this problem.
